Pregnant woman waits 2 hrs outside police station to register complaint in Madhya Pradesh

A 20-year-old pregnant woman who was beaten up by her husband sat for about 2 hours at the police station since there was no one to take her complaint.

Bhopal: A day after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan's meeting the Home Department where he ordered the management to be swift in taking cognizance of citizens grief, a nine-month pregnant woman was seen struggling to get the complaint filed at police stations.

In the meeting, Chauhan had specifically referred to the incident of Narsinghgarh and said an incident like that should not be repeated and that every complainant coming to the police station should get attention.

Despite that, the 20-year-old woman who was beaten up by her husband, sat for about 2 hours at the police station since there was no one to take her complaint.

The woman reportedly had a constant dispute with her husband for some time and on Sunday late last night at around 12:00, she reached the police station to complain about the assault.

She had to wait at the Tila Jamalpura police station for about 2 hours before her complaint was taken at 4 in the morning.

A case of dowry act and assault has been registered against her husband.

The victim said, she went to two police stations including an all women's police station, but even then she was made to wait saying there's no one to take her complaint.

She was advised to come in the morning and till then, sort things out on her own.

She added that she had tried sorting things out with her husband and the family, however, things did not go well and instead, a small fight broke when someone kicked her in the stomach due to which she was in pain.

The Tila Jamalpura police station said that the woman was called for counselling with her husband at the police station two days ago, during which both were advised that they were together and both of them agreed. But the woman once again brought a complaint at 4:00 am, and a case has been registered.

Refuting the victim's claim, the women police station in-charge Ajita Nair said she was sitting in the police station till 10:30 that night and no such matter came to her notice. She added that it might be possible that the gate inside the police station was closed due to the deployment of two women constables at night inside the police.
