Bhopal: Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sadhvi Pragya Thakur has demanded a provision of a death sentence in cases related to "love jihad," citing that provision of a 10-year sentence is less.

Accused should be either life imprisoned or hanged, she said.

The MP said that there is a large amount of funding from other countries to carry out love jihad, so that innocent girls get trapped in their clutches.

They are provided with enough resources for that. For this, the government should do a detailed investigation of funding.

Not only this, Sadhvi Pragya said that she will also collect data on love jihad cases and will also demand to make laws in Parliament about love jihad.

Is there funding for love jihad?

Pragya Thakur said that this is a conspiracy. Just the way funding is done to promote terrorism, in the same manner, funding is also done for carrying out Love Jihad and this is a part of a big conspiracy.

For the last few days, a large number of love jihad cases are coming to light in Madhya Pradesh.

Regarding this, the government has also talked about making a bill in the coming session, which has been named the Freedom of Religion Act 2020.

No need for conversion

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti has said about the law that is being made in Madhya Pradesh for Love Jihad that 'there is no need to convert in this country because Hindus can worship Gita as well as Quran-Bible, and can visit both temple-mosque. Our constitution is secular, so there is no need for conversion in India.’

What is love jihad?

Love jihad is made up of two words. Love is derived from the English language and Jihad is the Arabic word.

Jihad means putting all your strength to fulfil any purpose. When those who believe in a particular religion, by resorting to deceit, fraud and lies, trap a girl of another religion with their love and convert her and then marry her, it is called love jihad. However, love jihad was not recognized until the Supreme Court itself accepted it.

Draft prepared in Madhya Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh government has drafted the MP Freedom of Religion Bill.

Under this law, a provision of 10 years punishment has been fixed for the accused of love jihad.

Also, in this bill, there is a provision to cancel the registration of the institution of this kind of marriage.

Earlier, the provision of a five-year sentence was being considered.

There is a readiness to bring the Freedom of Religion Bill in the coming assembly session.

State Home Minister Narottam Mishra held a meeting with the Bhopal-based ministry to draft the Freedom of Religion Bill -2020. In this, it has been agreed to increase the provision of punishment from five years to 10 years.

Those who help will also be punished

In the proposed 'Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Bill', the provision of punishment has been made on the lines of the law of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

There is a provision of punishment of 10 years for seduction or forcible conversion and marriage.

Along with this, the registration of the institutions that enables conversion or marriage and provides the financial assistance to them will also be cancelled. The proposal of the bill will be brought in the cabinet soon.

What action will be taken against the institutions?

It was decided that action will also be taken against the entities that provide financial assistance to the entities that conduct such activities. The religious leaders, who have converted without applying beforehand, will also be sentenced to five years.

What will be the rules of marriage?

One month before the marriage after conversion, one has to apply to the District Collector Office.

The Collector will summon both the parties and their families by sending out the notice.

Written statements will also be taken from them that coercion is not being done for marriage or conversion.

Only after that will the collector give permission. If any Qazi, Maulvi or clergy conducts religious conversions and marriages without submitting the application, then a provision of five years' punishment has been set against such people too.

The family will be able to lodge a complaint

Victims, their parents and relatives can complain in case of marriage and conversion by seduction or deception.

This offence will be cognizable and non-bailable. In this way, the accused of conversion or marriage will have to prove themselves that they have been done without any pressure, without any greed, without any coercion. Marriage can also be made void under this law.

The government to study the law minutely

Before finalizing the 'Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Bill', the government will understand the nuances of the law by sending a study team to other states.

Only then will this draft be considered ready and after passing it in the cabinet, it will be laid on the floor of the assembly.
