Suspected hawala operative with cash arrested

A woman, who is believed to be a member of a hawala gang, has been held by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Jabalpur with Rs 50 Lakh in cash. The RPF has informed the Income Tax department even as they investigate the case further.

Jabalpur: Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested a woman with rupees 50 lakh in cash, official sources said.

Working on a tip-off that two women were travelling to Mumbai by Mahanagari Express and carrying huge cash illegally, the RPF raided the train and held one of them while the other one managed to escape, they said.

Money was being transferred to Mumbai on regular basis, the sources said. It's believed that the two worked with some Hawala gang.

Meanwhile, the RPF has informed the Income Tax department about the seizure.

The case is being investigated further.
