Madhya Pradesh: Electricity in this modern era has evolved into a basic necessity of life.
While the efforts continue to harness electricity from various sources, especially when the electricity generated from fossil fuels becoming a challenge with depleting resources and environmental hazards, a student from Rani Durgavati University in Jabalpur has achieved success in producing current from the grass.
The student from the Design Innovation Centre(DIC) in this university has developed a technique for charging batteries with grass.
Various projects including the generation of current from other sources are underway in the DIC presently.
The student has connected batteries with grass grown in his lab with small bulbs attached to the batteries. As the batteries received energy from the grass, the bulbs emit light.
This project still confines to the lab stage and the preparations are being made to test it on a greater level. The student is also preparing to get a patent on it. It is to be noted that due to patent issues, the details of the project have not been made public.
The coordinator of DIC, Dr Saardul Singh Sindhu has said that plants and trees are the most powerful sources of energy, thus the grass was selected for this experiment.
He was also hopeful about being able to use other flora for the production of electricity in future.
