Bhopal: For the first time in the state, Hinduism will be taught as a subject in colleges where Upanishads and Puranas are to be imparted to students. Announcing this, Higher Education Minister Mohan Yadav said, "Students will learn about Upanishads and Puranas. This way, students will get to know more about Hinduism."

Stressing the need to impart religious education to Bachelor of Arts (BA) students, the minister said that students must learn about Lord Ram, Lord Hanuman along with the biography of Tulsidas, etc.
Vedas, Upanishads and Puranas will be made a part of the new syllabus, Yadav said, adding that the new syllabus will come under the New Education Policy. The new syllabus shall be implemented from this session.
