Indore (MP): In a recent incidence of medical negligence, a family in Madhya Pradesh's Indore has alleged that their newborn's feet and toes have been nibbled by the rats in a government-run hospital.
The incident took place on Monday at the Maharaja Yashwantrao government hospital, where a 19-day old infant was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit(NICU).
According to the sources, as the child was premature, weighing nearly 1.4kg, he was kept in the NICU, located on the first floor of the hospital. The matter came into light after the infants' mother went to feed him on Monday morning, and was shocked to see the baby's toe bleeding.

After she raised an alarm, immediate treatment was started by the hospital authorities. The staff on duty also got the baby examined by a plastic surgeon and after investigation, it was confirmed that a toe and a finger of the child have been bitten by a rat.

Meanwhile, a three-member committee - consisting of two doctors and an administrative officer- has been formed by Superintendent Dr. PS Thakur to investigate the matter.
Notably, the hospital has been infamous for the rat plague, the management spent around Rs 1.5 crore in 2015 to get rid of rats.
