Satna (Madhya Pradesh): There has been a huge uproar of Madhya Pradesh following the death of a man in police custody. Reports say he was 'shot' inside the Singhpur police station in Satna district.
The man who was charged with robbery was identified as Rajapati Kushwaha, age 45, a resident of Narayanpur.
He was arrested on suspicion of theft and later shot with a service revolver of the police station in-charge, reports said. He was taken to the Rewa Medical College where he died. The circumstances surrounding the shooting is not yet clear.
Sub Divisional Officer of Police and various other police officers were present on-site. The gates of the police station were closed and sealed.
SDOP, Ravi Shankar Pandey said he has no information although he has been present in the police station.
The family of Rajpati was informed he was taken to the police station on September 27.
''At night we came to give him food, But we were not allowed to meet him, after taking food from us, the police kept it and the lights at the police station were turned off, but it was learnt later that Rajapati had died,'' said Dhirendra Kushwaha, Nephew of Rajapati Kushwaha.
Soon after the incident, family members took to the streets demanding justice and stringent action against the police.
