Madhya Pradesh woman dies after sterilisation surgery

The condition of Nikita Jain deteriorated shortly after the surgery following which the family took her to a private hospital, where the doctors drained about 3 litres of blood from her stomach. According to doctors, a blood vein was cut in the stomach during the sterilization.

Sagar (Madhya Pradesh): A Bariaghat-based woman, Nikita Jain, died after a sterilisation surgery in Madhya Pradesh’s Bundelkhand district on Tuesday afternoon.

The operation was performed by Joint director of the health department, Dr.Shashi Thakur on 28 January.

According to the family members, the condition of Nikita Jain deteriorated shortly after the surgery following which the family took her to a private hospital, where the doctors took out about 3 litres of blood from her stomach. According to doctors, a blood vein was cut in the stomach during the sterilization.

However, the condition of Nikita did not improve upon which she was rushed to another private hospital where On January 31, Dr Santosh Rai stopped the bleeding by performing her operation, but by then only 3 per cent haemoglobin was left in the body.

The doctors asked the blood bank of the district hospital to arrange for blood, plasma and platelets, but even after many attempts, the required amount of blood could not be arranged.

She was admitted to the ICU ward, where she breathed her last on Tuesday afternoon.

When District Civil Surgeon Dr RD Gaikwad while commenting on the issue said that the deceased woman was suffering from a disease called DIC and no one gets the disease suddenly. The woman must have had the same complications even after her delivery.

He also said that investigation on the matter is underway and action can be taken only after it is over.
