Madhya Pradesh BJP suggests changing names of two cities
Politics is taking place in Madhya Pradesh on changing the names of cities after Uttar Pradesh. The Assembly Protem Speaker of Madhya Pradesh has said to rename the Idgah of Bhopal to Guru Nanak Dev Tekri. Similarly, the name of Hoshangabad is also said to be Narmadapuram.
Bhopal: After Uttar Pradesh government's initiative of changing several cities name, Madhya Pradesh Assembly Protem Speaker and BJP leader Rameshwar Sharma also suggested changing the names of several places.
Sharma suggested changing the names of Hoshangabad city to 'Narmadapuram' and Idgah Hills in Bhopal to 'Guru Nanak Tekri'.
Meanwhile, state BJP president, VD Sharma also supporting speaker Sharma's suggestion and said that if the public wants, then the name should be changed.
"Hoshangabad should be called Narmadapuram. Hoshang Shah was a looter. He attacked the city and destroyed its temples. That is why we have called it Narmadapuram and the government has created the Narmadapuram division," Sharma said.
"Idgah Hills (in Bhopal) should be known as 'Guru Nanak Tekri' because Guru Nanak Dev visited the place 500 years ago when there was no idgah there. I appeal to people to call it 'Guru Nanak Tekri'," he said.
Speaking to reporters here, VD Sharma said," If there is a demand from the public, then the names should be changed. Anyway, Hoshangabad region is already called Narmadapuram. And if the public wants Narmadapuram name in place of Hoshangabad, then the demand of the public should be fulfilled."
However, the politics over changing the names of cities and places in Madhya Pradesh is not new. The BJP has already demanded the name of Bhopal to be changed to Bhojpal and Indore to Indoor.
Reportedly, Congress leader Bhushan Nath said," Change of name cannot lead to the development. BJP only wants to spoil the atmosphere by changing the name of cities and places."
Process for renaming cities or places?
To change the name of any district and place, the local body first passes a resolution in the council. After this, the proposal is sent to the government. After approval from the cabinet, it is sent to the governor. The Governor sends information to the Ministry of Home Affairs for change of name. After the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the government issues its gazette notification. After this, the collector changes the name in the government documents and other places in the district.
