Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): India is a land of diversity with sundry stories echoing from every corner of its street. It is also a land where peculiar beliefs are harboured which often leaves people in astonishment.
On a similar note, an unusual divorce in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal grabbed everyone's attention, where figurines of a frog couple were separated from the bondage of marriage in a customary process.
To appease Indra, the god of rains, people here married off this frog couple on July 19, as the state was not experiencing monsoons.
However, after the advent of rains, Madhya Pradesh saw 198 rain-related deaths due to heavy to very heavy rainfall, which is why members of Om Shiva Shakti Seva Mandal in Mahadev temple in Bhopal decided to take such decision on Wednesday.
"The situation due to heavy rains are becoming distressing day by day and therefore we have performed this ritual so that the rains can make a halt," told a member of the Om Shiva Shakti Seva Mandal.
Meanwhile, according to state MET department sources, it is unlikely for any respite in the next 3-4 days from the heavy rains hitting the state.
