Covid patients die reportedly over oxygen shortage in Jabalpur

Amid the rising coronavirus cases, the hospitals have been running out of oxygen supply in various states including Madhya Pradesh. In a tragic incident, at least five patients who were admitted to a Jabalpur based hospital is thought to have died due to a lack of oxygen supply.

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): At least five coronavirus patients died at a private hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur allegedly due to a shortage of oxygen supply on Thursday.

The incident took place at city-based Galaxy hospital, following which a high-level probe has been initiated by the Jabalpur police on Friday.

According to the reports, agitated family members of the deceased persons created a ruckus at the hospital, after which senior police officials rushed to the spot and defused the tension.

However, the hospital denied such claims and said the hospital had adequate oxygen stock and none of the patients died due to lack of oxygen. It cited a 'technical glitch' in the gas pipe as the probable reason for the incident.

The agitating family members also alleged that this was not the first time that the hospital failed in dealing with the smooth supply of oxygen to the patients.

According to official data, there are 82,268 active COVID-19 cases in Madhya Pradesh, while the cumulative cases of coronavirus infection have mounted to 3,59,755.
