Spurious liquor deaths hit 21 in Madhya Pradesh

Police in Morena have registered a case against seven persons in connection with the spurious liquor case and announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for anyone giving information leading to their arrest.

Morena: The death toll in the Morena spurious liquor tragedy has risen to 21. The Police said that they have registered a case against at least seven persons in connection with the case and also declared a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to their arrest.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Hansraj Singh said that the case has been arrested against accused and efforts are on to nab them.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a high-level meeting over the Morena incident in Bhopal.

Amid questions being raised on the availability of toxic liquor in the area, state Home Minister Narottam Mishra earlier said, "I am deeply saddened by this incident. The Station House Officer has been suspended immediately and accused will not be spared."

On Monday night several people from Manpur and Pahawali villages died and others fell sick allegedly after consuming spurious liquor.
