Bhopal: In Madhya Pradesh, the major topic of politics seems to be cows again. But how did this matter resurface again? Shivraj has won through the by-elections so why the hurry? On Wednesday morning, Shivraj posted on Twitter announcing that a new cow cabinet will be formed and on the fourth day, a meeting was held of the same. It is being said that Animal Husbandry Minister, Premsingh Patel had no clue about any such cabinet. Shivraj, who is an expert in politics, has again struck a masterstroke leaving Congress agape. On Sunday morning, Shivraj held a meeting of the cow cabinet immediately after which he is seen worshipping a cow in Bhopal and then as promised, reaches Agar Malwa where he bows down to another cow. The major question is-how did the cows become a topic for politics in Madhya Pradesh all over again?

How did the cows suddenly become a topic of politics?

Actually, the concern is not about the upbringing of the cows, but the faith of the Hindus. This is a delicate matter which the BJP knows quite well. If the BJP considers the cows as a reason for more votes, then the Congress will be eyeing the same matter. During the Kamal Nath government, the Congress had announced the establishment of one thousand cow shelters or gaushalas which was a major topic in their by-elections campaigns too. But Shivraj proved to be a worthy player as usual. He was not happy with the victory of the by-elections and immediately suppressed Kamal Nath's Gaushala mission by forming a cow cabinet of his own and immediately took up the issue of cows from the Congress.

There is another reason for the topic of cows in politics

The Congress had said that they would buy cow dung from cattle herders and then make it into manure. They had promised in their manifesto that they would find a way to make cows a source of income. This may be another reason why as soon as Shivraj was in power, he turned the scheme towards his own government.

What happened in Shivraj's first cow cabinet meeting?

The first cow cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in the capital Bhopal. It was decided in the meeting that Cow Animal Husbandry and Research Center will be made in Salaria Sanctuary.

• Urban bodies will be added for the protection of destitute cows in the urban areas.

• Cow-Animal Husbandry and Research Center to be built in Salaria Sanctuary.

• A large number of cowsheds will be built in the state with the help of the society.

• Self-help groups will be assigned to run the cowsheds.

Shivraj reached Malwa immediately after the cow cabinet meeting. Actually, the first meeting of the cow cabinet was to be held in Agar Malwa. But suddenly there was a change of plans and the meeting took place in Bhopal. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan was seen worshipping cows in the cow sanctuary of Agar Malwa. ETV Bharat did a reality check of that cow sanctuary. When the ETV Bharat team took stock of each compound, the situation looked quite serious. The state of the cows there was poor. In many places, there were dead cows, while elsewhere there were cows waiting to die. As soon as the matter was exposed to the media, the meeting was shifted to Bhopal.

Plans were being made continuously since 2014

BJP raised the issue of cow protection in its manifesto in 2014. Aadhaar cards of cows were made in MP. After the announcement of the BJP in 2017, it became the first cow sanctuary in the country. The BJP had raised the matter of Gaumata or mother cow fiercely before the assembly in 2018. The BJP also built a mobile van under the name of '1962 Livestock Sanjeevani' scheme.

90% reduction in cow's dosage

At present, 1.80 lakh cows have been kept in the gaushalas of Madhya Pradesh. In the last financial year, the budget of the Department of Animal Husbandry was kept at Rs 132 crore, while in 2020-21 it went straight to Rs 11 crore, which means that it was cut by about 90 percent. That means the budget of the cows’ diet has been reduced to Rs. 20 from Rs. 60.

There is also a large vote bank the topic of cows in Bahral Madhya Pradesh which cannot be denied. Shivraj will definitely be eyeing the 2023 assembly elections as well. Therefore, he wants to keep himself active in the state from now on and does not want to leave a single chance for Congress.
