Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh after Police Sunday registered a case against a person who disguised himself as a Hindu to get into a physical relationship with a woman whom he later allegedly forced to convert to Islam. Police said the suspect Mohammad Akram masqueraded as Amar Kushwaha.
The woman complainant said she has been talking to a young man over phone for a month. He introduced himself as Amar Kushwaha and took her to a hotel where he raped her on the promise of marriage. He later insisted the woman to convert to Islam revealing his original identity, Madhya Pradesh Nagar Police Station In-charge Sudhir Arjariya quoted the woman as saying.
On the basis of the victim's complaint, a case had been registered under the provisions of Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act 2020, and different sections of IPC against the accused, Sudhir Arjariya told ANI. As the news trickled out, the members of the Sanskriti Bachao Manch gheraoed the police station and demanded the stringent action against the accused. The incidents of 'love jihad' should be stopped, the members of the forum said, adding that they we will not tolerate 'love jihad'.
Earlier in February 2021, a Muslim youth was arrested in Indore, Madhya Pradesh under relevant sections of 'Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Ordinance, 2020'- infamously referred to as 'love jihad' law. It prohibits and provides for punishment for conversion by misrepresentation, undue influence, coercion, marriage or any fraudulent means.
