Wayanad's honey hunters set for record collection

The district of Wayanad has recorded higher collection of wild honey due to moderate summer rain and the delay in the arrival of Kerala Monsoon. The largest honey gathering in the state of Kerala happens at the tribal belts of these regions.

Wayanad: Following moderate summer rain and the delay in the arrival of Kerala Monsoon, the district of Wayanad has recorded higher collection of wild honey.

All tribal cooperative societies in several places including Kallur, Pulpalli and Thirunelli have recorded higher collection compared to last season.

Besides, the Honey is collected from the areas under the purview of the Forest Department and some tribal belts in the district.The season of honey usually last for three months starting from April and is sold in the market at Rs.420/kgAccording to the reports, from Kallur alone around 16,000 kilograms of honey has been procured. 4,000 kilos more when compared to last year.The largest honey gathering in the state of Kerala happens at the tribal belts of these regions.Further, the forest dwellers are paid for their efforts. They earn around Rs. 420/kg and are given a bonus during the upcoming festive season.
