Kalpetta: An elephant sustained serious injuries after it was hit by a lorry near Muthanga forest in Kerala's Wayanad district on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred when a speeding lorry rammed into the jumbo which had come out of the jungle and was crossing the road, forest officials said.
Later, people and police reached the spot where the injured animal was found with the help of "Kumki" elephants.
Officials said the 25-year-old animal's shoulder bone was badly fractured and is currently undergoing treatment.
The lorry driver, a native of Kozhikode city, has been arrested by the police.
