Pathanamthitta: Aranmula kannadi is a handmade metal-alloy mirror manufactured in Aranmula district of Kerala.
The most important feature of this mirror is that it shows the spitting image of the person looking into it without any refraction, thus, showing the actual image of the viewer.
Currently, over 22 units are working under the Vishwa Brahmana Aranmula metal manufacturing society here.
The Kerala flood has ruined the lives of these artisans. The flood water has destroyed the moulds used or making these special mirrors.
A Mumbai-based company 'Habitat of India' provided tools, materials to the flood affected units here.
Aranmula kannadi is believed to bring prosperity to the house and luck to the owner. Hence, it is gifted during weddings and housewarming ceremonies.
What makes Aranmula mirror different from the normal mirror?
Its unique manufacturing process makes it stand out of all other mirrors in the world. It cost ranges from ₹650 to ₹2 lakh.
