Kerala Minister alleges conspiracy behind Desai's visit to Sabarimala

Kerala Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran on Tuesday alleged conspiracy behind women's rights activist Trupti Desai's decision to visit Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala.

"The government suspects a conspiracy behind Trupti Desai's decision to go to Sabarimala. She has come from Pune, a stronghold of the RSS and the BJP," the Minister told reporters in Thalassery.

The minister alleged that the move was to create trouble during a peaceful pilgrim season in Sabarimala. He was responding to queries on a team led by Desai headed for Sabarimala.

At least 10 Sabarimala pilgrims were injured after a tree collapsed near marakoottam area in Kochi in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Following which, additional police personnels have been deployed in the area.

Four persons who were seriously injured were rushed to Kottayam Medical College Hospital and one has been transfered to the Pathanamthitta district hospital.

Activist Trupti Desai, who arrived at the Kochi airport early on Tuesday enroute to Sabarimala temple sparked off protests by Lord Ayyappa devotees.

Desai arrived with four other activists at the airport around 5 a.m. and and has been in discussion with the top police officers in Kochi requesting police protection to reach the temple, located about 200 km from the airport.

Hearing about her arrival, a large group of Sabarimala devotees gathered in front of the police office and started to sing Sabarimala hymns promising not to allow her to pray at the temple.

Trupti Desai reached Kochi on Tuesday to visit Sabarimala to offer prayers at Lord Ayyappa shrine

Kochi: Women's rights activist Trupti Desai reached here on Tuesday to proceed to Sabarimala to offer prayers at the Lord Ayyappa shrine.

Desai and a few other activists who landed at the Kochi International Airport early Tuesday have been taken to Kochi city police commissionerate.

She said they preferred November 26 to visit the shrine as it was the Constitution Day.

She said she has come up with the 2018 order of the Supreme Court permitting entry of women of all age groups into the Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala.

"I will leave Kerala only after offering prayers at the shrine," the activist said.

The Pune-based Desai had made an unsuccessful attempt to enter the temple in November last year, weeks after the Supreme Court lifted the ban that prevented women and girls between the age of 10 and 50 from entering the famous shrine.
