Triple lockdown in four districts of Kerala from Sunday midnight

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced a triple lockdown for Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram districts to contain the spread of Covid infections. Nearly 10,000 policemen have been deployed in these areas to strictly enforce the triple lockdown.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday announced that a triple lockdown will be imposed in four districts from Sunday midnight.

"The lockdown will take effect in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram. Strict restrictions will be imposed in these districts," the Chief Minister said.

The borders of the districts will remain closed. The districts will be divided into zones and there will be only one entrance to the zones. Senior police officials will be in charge of the zones.

10,000 policemen have been deployed to strictly enforce the triple lockdown. The drone system will be used for surveillance and strict action will be taken against those violating the regulations and those leaving home unnecessarily, Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Other social activities other than delivering food are not allowed.

Medical stores and petrol pumps can operate. Banks can operate on Tuesdays and Fridays, while Co-operative Banks can work on Mondays and Thursdays from 10 am to 1 pm.

Newspapers and milk must be delivered before 6 am.

Housemaids, home nurses, plumbers, electricians can travel by getting police online pass.

Air and train passengers are also allowed to travel.

Bakery and grocery stores can operate on alternative days.
