Train passenger stabbed by co-passenger on board Marusagar Express in Kerala's Palakkad; accused held

An argument broke out between the two passengers on board Marusagar Express which escalated with the accused stabbing his co-passenger near the eye.

Palakkad: A train passenger was allegedly stabbed by a co-passenger, who was also injured in the incident on board the Marusagar Express in Shoranur area of Palakkad district in Kerala on Sunday night, a police official said. Both the victim and the accused have been have been admitted to different hospitals where they are undergoing treatment.

An official said that the incident took place on Sunday night at around 11 pm at Shoranur on board the Marusagar Express. The victim has been identified as Devdas, a resident of Parappanangadi while as police identified the accused as Aziz, who hails from Guruvayur area of Kerala. According to the police, there was a verbal argument between Devdas and Aziz on the moving train, which escalated and led to the assault.

As per the official, when the train stopped near the Shoranur railway station signal, Aziz got down from the train and broke a glass bottle outside, and stabbed Devdas in his face near the eye. Aziz, a native of Guruvayur, boarded the train from Aluva station. Eyewitnesses also said that there was an argument between Devdas and Aziz.

As per the eyewitnesses, Aziz's hand was also injured in the incident. After stabbing Devdas, Aziz tried to get down from the train and run, but the RPF caught him and took him into custody, an official said. Devdas and Aziz have been admitted to different hospitals in Shoranur. Devdas was later shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for specialised treatment.

Aziz is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Shoranur. The aftermath of the stabbing incident has been caught on the camera. In the footage, the victim Devdas is seen covering his left eye with a cloth while being rushed by a couple of men for treatment. A policeman is also seen leading them away from the railway station.

The incident comes over a month after a youth allegedly set ablaze passengers inside the Alappuzha-Kannur Express train on the night of Sunday Apr. 2. Three people including an infant and a woman were killed while nine others were injured in the incident.
