Kottayam: The Mundakkayam police have arrested three youths for allegedly raping two minor girls in Kerala's Kottayam district on Saturday.
As per reports, on Monday evening the two girls hailing from Madukka, jumped into Manimala river in an attempt to commit suicide, after consuming poison. As soon as the police received information about the same, it swung into action and rescued the girls.
Following which, the duo was admitted to Kottayam Government Medical College, where they are undergoing treatment currently.
According to police, the first statement of the girls, recorded by the police stated that they jumped into the river after they were scolded by their parents. However, the police were not convinced with the statement and suspected something suspicious in the act. Later, they decided to conduct a medical examination of the duo.
The reports revealed that girls were raped and later, one of the girls disclosed the same.
As per reports, three men, two of them belonging to Koruthodu and another one hailing from Mukkada, all aged 20, were booked on the basis of statements given by the duo.
As per sources, the local police are yet to nab one more person involved in the incident.
