Thiruvananthapuram: R Sreelekha assumed office as the first woman Director General of Police in Kerala on Monday. She has taken charge as the head of Fire and Rescue Services.
In a programme held at the Fireforce Head Quarters in Thiruvananthapuram, A Hemachandran handed over the charge to R Sreelekha.
A 1987 batch IPS officer, Sreelekha had worked as a college lecturer and a Reserve Bank Officer, before joining civil services.
Earlier, she has worked as the District Police Chief in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur districts and also as the DIG, Ernakulam. She has worked as an officer with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Kochi and New Delhi centres.
