Thrissur: A man named Haridas, performed a surgery on a pregnant cat ran over by an unidentified vehicle on the National Highway in Kerala’s Thrissur and saved the kittens.
Haridas, a snake catcher hailing from Thrippekkulam in Mathilakam, Thrissur, surgically saved the kittens soon after the mother cat was knocked down by a vehicle on the highway.
The incident happened at Anjam Parathi in Kodungallur Sreenarayanapuram around midnight on Sunday. Haridas was returning on his bike after rescuing a snake from Pulloottu in Kodungalloor at night.
On spotting a cat which was knocked down and dead on the road, Haridas stopped the bike to remove the cat from the road and leave it on the roadside. As he lifted the dead cat, he suspected that it was pregnant. Soon, he bought a blade from a nearby shop and performed a ‘surgery’ on the dead cat. Within ten minutes, Haridas safely took out all the four live kittens. Those who had gathered had also recorded the incident on their phones.
After giving first aid treatments to the kittens, Haridas took the kittens to his house. They have been ‘incubated’ in a cardboard box filled and lined with sponge. The kittens are being given lactogen using a syringe every half an hour to sustain their lives. Haridas has been actively working as a snake catcher for the past 20 years.
