Kasaragod: Two primary school teachers from Kasaragod district of Kerala have come up with a digital application to aid online learning, along with their classes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ranjith and Rajesh, the two Government School teachers, developed the app named ‘P Teacher’.

Through the application, follow up lessons and study material supplementing the First Bell classes of Victers channel are provided for the ease of students. The mobile learning application was developed by the two teachers as an experiment to attract children towards academic activities in a situation where they are totally restricted to their homes.

The Lower Primary School students (First through Fourth grades) from public schools in the State can listen to the classes in English or Malayalam through the digital application. Activities can also be done. Animation videos, which will increase the thought process in primary school children and help in memorising the lessons, are being uploaded on the app.

The app is designed based on an interactive model rather than that of mugging up. In effect, through this digital platform the students can experience classroom-like learning, says Rajesh and Ranjith.

The application, which is very helpful for the students, could be finally realised after days of hard work by these two teachers during the COVID lockdown. The lessons and activities in the mobile app have been designed in such a way that it attracts children.

The two teachers received help and support from colleagues and friends in developing the app. Developed at the cost of Rs 1 Lakh, the app has become very valuable for the State’s Education department. The app can be upgraded to provide lessons and supplementary classes for higher grade students with Government support.
