Thiruvananthapuram: The Judicial Commission, headed by Justice Narayana Kurup, has handed over its inquiry report in the Nedumkandam custodial death case, to the State Government here on Thursday.
The report of 200 pages is said to have criticised the brutal custodial torture by the police and includes statements recorded from more than 60 witnesses. Rajkumar was picked and arrested by the police in Haritha finance fraud case.
Rajkumar's death while he was remanded in judicial custody in Peerumedu jail on 21 July 2019 was thoroughly examined by the Commission. It was alleged that he died from custodial torture by the police.
Earlier, the Crime Branch had registered a case after allegations that Rajkumar’s death was following custodial torture, and the policemen were listed as accused.
Later on, owing to the political pressure in the incident, the Government appointed a judicial commission to inquire Rajkumar’s death.
