Kollam: Around 14 bullets were found abandoned near Kulathupuzha area in Kollam district on Saturday. According to reports, the bullets were spotted in an abandoned package by two civilians.
Meanwhile, DGP Loknath Behera said that Preliminary investigation revealed the bullets are of foreign-made. "The Anti-Terrorist Squad will probe the matter," he said in a release.
Kerala Police had earlier said a ballistics team would inspect and determine the make of the bullets and the gun in which they could be used.
In another seizure, 60 bullets used in country-made guns were recovered from a man during a routine vehicle check by excise officials at the Kerala-Karnataka border.
The matter assumes significance as a Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report had stated that 12,061 live cartridges were found missing in a joint verification in the Bell-of-Arms of Special Armed Police Battalion, along with the Assistant Commandant. The CAG had also come down on state police chief DGP Loknath Behera for purchasing bulletproof vehicles for VVIP security, violating guidelines.
The CAG audit tabled in the state assembly also stated that 25 INSAS rifles were also missing from the Special Armed Police Battalion.
There was a shortage of 250 9 mm Drill Cartridges, which was "covered up" with dummy cartridges, the report on General and Social Sector for the fiscal ending March 31,2018 had said.
