Kannur: With stringent lockdown imposed in Kerala in this scintillating summer, people especially men are doing a tonsorial challenge of head shaving, to beat the heat. However, women are playing the integral role of barber in this home quarantine shave challenge.
As the barbershops and hi-tech beauty parlours remain closed owing to the lockdown, hair-cut or beard ‘designing’ is currently out of question.
In the rural areas of Kannur, the situation seems ‘favourable’ for these men to flaunt a tonsured head and shaven face.

All those who depended on the local barbershops and the highly paid hairstylists for their regular cuts and shaves, now sit in rows in front of the women in their houses. Grandfathers, grandchildren and all those aged in between have turned to tonsure their heads.
The men folks lining up before the women in their houses to get the tonsure done piques one's curiosity. Those who had shaved their head at the beginning of the lockdown are already set for the second round. The women also appear to be enjoying this new role of a ‘barber’, during the lockdown.
