Mallapuram: Govt college cultivates mushrooms for charity

A government college in Mallapuram has begun the cultivation of mushrooms in the college premises. The motive behind it is to collect money for a charitable program called 'Share a Meal'.

Mallapuram (Kerala): In a first, a government college here has begun cultivating mushrooms in the college campus alongside studies.

Govt college cultivates mushrooms for charity

The motive behind this is to raise funds for a programme called 'Share a Meal'.

Around 100 national service scheme volunteers have started the program with a capital investment of Rs 50,000.

One of the teachers of the college said, "Our aim is to develop a passion for agriculture in the students while making them contribute for a good cause."

The college authorities have allotted separate room which is physically equipped for the cultivation of mushrooms in it.

It consists of fog pipes fitted to control the temperature in the room.

Teachers and students at the college are hoping to have a good income through the farming of mushrooms.

All the money earned from selling them will go into charity.

Malappuram: Malappuram government college students started mushroom cultivation in college campus along with their studies. They started this for raising funds for the 'Share a Meal' program for patients. 100 national service scheme volunteers are doing this with a capital of 50,000 rupees.  "The aim of the program is to make a passion for agriculture in students" teachers said.

For the mushroom cultivtaion there is scientifically made mushroom room in college. Fog pipes have also been fitted to control the temperature in the room. This is the first time in Kerala that mushroom farming has been set up in a college campus. Teachers and students are hoping that they can make a good income through this farming. They are using the profit for charity works.
