Mallapuram (Kerala): In a first, a government college here has begun cultivating mushrooms in the college campus alongside studies.
The motive behind this is to raise funds for a programme called 'Share a Meal'.
Around 100 national service scheme volunteers have started the program with a capital investment of Rs 50,000.
One of the teachers of the college said, "Our aim is to develop a passion for agriculture in the students while making them contribute for a good cause."
The college authorities have allotted separate room which is physically equipped for the cultivation of mushrooms in it.
It consists of fog pipes fitted to control the temperature in the room.
Teachers and students at the college are hoping to have a good income through the farming of mushrooms.
All the money earned from selling them will go into charity.
