Malappuram: The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it. Working along these lines, Kerala's Malappuram Corporation has resolved to reduce plastic in the district by taking an initiative to provide food in exchange for plastic.
'Give plastic, get food', a scheme by the municipality, was launched by MLA P Ubaidulla and District Collector Jaffer Malik on Sunday. Ubaidulla inaugurated the event by offering food to Malik who came with plastic waste.
The municipality will provide food from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm daily to people who will bring waste plastic for disposal at the 'Khani', MRF unit of municipality.
Ahead of the inauguration, city councillors, employees and NSS volunteers held a rally from Malappuram town to Kottapadi to collect the garbage as part of the campaign.
