Thiruvananthapuram: A major fire broke out in a commercial building at MG Road here on Tuesday.
According to reports, the fire broke out at 9 am today. Two firefighters sustained injuries during the rescue operation.
As many as 12 fire fighting units were deployed at the spot to douse the fire.
In addition to this, 'Panther Fire Brigade' from the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport was also deployed when the fire seemed to be raging out of control.
Large scale evacuation was carried out from the nearby buildings, sensing the imminent danger if the fire engulfs the area. The fire spread to nearby buildings and the two-storey showroom and godown were completely destroyed.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
State Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran supervised the rescue operations.
The City Police Commissioner K Sanjay Kumar and Deputy Commissioner Aditya were also present during the operation.
