Journalists union seeks bail for Siddique Kappan

Siddique Kappan was detained on his way to Hathras, UP, for covering the rape and murder of a minor girl. Since then he has been in jail, booked under Unlawful Activities Protection Act (UAPA). As per the UP government, Kappan had lied about his organisation, received funds from international sources and was not cooperating with the investigation.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Union of working Journalists (KUWJ) has moved the Supreme Court seeking interim bail of five days for journalist Siddique Kappan to meet his 90-year-old ailing mother.

The nonagenarian who is in a critical stage has wishes to meet her son for one last time.

KUWJ has stated that "there is extreme urgency in this matter due to deteriorating health condition of the mother."

Earlier, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal appearing for Kappan had mentioned about it during the hearing to which CJI led bench had agreed and a video call from jail was arranged. But due to her sickness, Kappan's mother could not respond.
