Kerala Air India plane crash toll climbs to 21

One of the passengers injured in the Air India Express plane crash in Kerala earlier this month has died taking the toll to 21.

Malappuram: Another injured passenger in the Air India Express plane crash in Kozhikode on August 7 died at a private hospital on Monday taking the death toll to 21.

The passenger was identified as Manjula Kumari (38) who was a native of Kozhikode.

Kumari was returning from Dubai with her friend Ramya Muraleedharan when the plane ran off a cliff on landing at Kozhikode airport.

Eighteen others, including the pilot and co-pilot were killed and several others were injured. Flight IX 1344 was carrying 190 passengers.

In the latest development, the US-based National Transportation Safety Board(NTSB) has appointed its "accredited representative and technical advisors" to assist the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in the ongoing probe. As per requirements of Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents & Incidents) Rules 2017 & ICAO Annex 13, AAIB as the State of Occurrence has notified NTSB being State of Manufacturer about the accident.

Meanwhile, AAIB has appointed a five-member team headed by Captain SS Chahar to probe the accident. A senior official from the ministry from civil aviation said the investigation will be thoroughly conducted and the report is expected to be submitted before the internationally accepted time limit of one year.
