Kollam dowry death case: Strong evidence of torture in the case says investigation officer

Kollam (Kerala): The police officer investigating the dowry death case has indicated that the police has found strong evidence of torture in the case. The victim, a young woman named Vismaya was found dead at her husband's house in the Kollam district. IG Harshita Atalloori, who is in charge of the investigation, said that the perpetrators will be severely punished after visiting the victim's house.

The investigating officer said that the victim's husband, Kiran Kumar, has also been charged for attacking the victim's brother at her parents' house at an earlier date. She said that the matter will be reinvestigated after demands by the victim's relatives.

The victim's family has alleged that Vismaya's death was not a suicide but a murder. The family has also given a statement to IG Harshita Atalloori, who is investigating the case. Meanwhile, further action against Kiran Kumar will be taken after the police receive Vismaya's final post-mortem report.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has strongly condemned the incident and has also promised a 24-hour helpline to report any dowry harassment cases.

Former Health Minister KK Shailaja also visited the victim's house with words of consolation. "This is a serious issue. Every person should work together to make Kerala dowry free," Shailaja said. She also assured that there would be no compromise with the accused.
