Thiruvananthapuram: Covid-19 pandemic has taken a toll on people's mental health. People have been dealing with bouts of depression and anxiety. Witnessing dear ones pass away, helpless even to bid a final goodbye have been unbearable experiences for many people. A shoulder to cry and vent one's emotions is giving hope to Covid sufferers and their loved ones.
Nidhin, a 33-year-old, psychologist working voluntarily at Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital has become the support for Covid patients who have been grappling with fear. Since March last year, he has been working tirelessly without taking a day off from work.

Nidhin said the experience in the Covid intensive care unit is unforgettable. He has been listening to Covid patients before they enter ICU and just before some patients die. He patiently listens to what they have to say and helps with phone calls to their relatives. He said willpower is crucial in surviving Covid. The wide curve on the face of Covid free patients keep him going despite the gloom the job renders in oneself.

Nidhin's selfless service has gained public attention and has been lauded by many influential personalities. Communist Party of India (Marxist) Politburo member MA Baby, Minister GR Anil and Member of Legislative Assembly VK Prashanth have lauded Nidhin. Despite financial constraints, the joy in helping people get out from the abyss of sadness and fear of Covid keeps him moving.
Nidhin hails from Perunkadavila in Neyyattinkara. He underwent practical training at Peroorkada Mental Health Center in Thiruvananthapuram after completing his post-graduation in clinical psychology.
