Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala): The 150-year-old campus of Kerala University in Thiruvananthapuram will for the first time have a transperson as its student, with Nadira Mehrin, a transgender person, being enrolled for a Master degree course in Political Science in the University.

"I aim to change the violent political atmosphere of the college, said Nadira while speaking to the reporters.

Nadira, a member AISF (All India Students' Federation) Thiruvananthapuram District Committee, was earlier credited with being the first transgender to contest for the general secretary’s post in the student union elections held at AJ College.

She had completed her under graduation in Journalism and Mass Communication.

T'Puram: The 150 year old campus of University College Thiruvananthapuram is setting a new breakthrough with transgender Nadira enrolled for MA Political Science. This is for the first time in the history of the college and also of the state that a transgender being admitted for a PG course. I aims to stamp an identity by executing creative activities and also to act as a possible change to cut break the violent political atmosphere of the college, said Nadira. I would like to continue in a very amicable manner with SFI, she added. Nadira had completed her under graduation in Journalism and Mass Communication. Nadira is also a member of AISF thiruvananthapuram district comittee.
