The kin of Janaki Amma who died of COVID was handed over the dead body of another woman from Attappadi, named Valli. The goof-up was realised and informed by the hospital authorities only after the cremation.

Palakkad (Kerala): The District hospital authorities in Palakkad, Kerala handed over a wrong dead body to the family of the deceased person.

The kin of Janaki Amma who died of COVID was handed over the dead body of another woman from Attappadi, named Valli. The goof-up was realised and informed by the hospital authorities only after the cremation.

The District Medical Officer of Palakkad has ordered a department level probe in the incident.

The dead body of Valli, a woman from Dhonigundu in Attappadi, who was found dead in a canal was shifted to Palakkad District hospital for autopsy.

When Valli’s family and the police personnel from Agali reached the hospital to receive the body after the post mortem, the authorities realised that the dead body is missing from the mortuary.

Later, on Friday morning, when the photo of the dead body which remained in the mortuary was identified by Janaki Amma’s family as that of hers, it was found that the remains of Valli had already been cremated.

The remains of Janaki Amma who had died on Thursday was brought to the District hospital for COVID test. When the test result came out positive, her body was decided to be cremated at the electrical crematorium at Chandra Nagar in Palakkad.

The body which was wrapped up in a PPE kit was received by Janaki Amma’s family and was cremated. The goof-up was discovered only later on Friday.
