Ernakulam: The Kerala high court on Thursday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to continue its probe into the Life Mission project and also directed the government to co-operate with the investigation.

The court did not issue an interim order on the Life Mission CEO's plea to cancel the FIR.

The court stated that it did not intend to intervene in the petition at this stage. At the same time, the petition received in the file has been adjourned for further argument. The case is set to return to court next Friday.

The government argued in the high court that the allegations related to the Life Mission project were politically motivated. The Life Mission said the government had only identified the land required for the construction of the flat and had not made any payment in connection with the project.

The contract is between the Life Mission and Red Crescent for the construction of the flat. The petition states that neither the government nor Life Mission will be in direct contact with the contractors undertaking the construction of the project.

KV Viswanathan, a senior advocate in the Supreme Court for Life Mission, appeared via video conference.

The CBI argued in court that it needed an investigation into Life and that only then could the irregularities be detected.
