Bird flu: Kerala to compensate poultry farmers

The Government has considered the farmers’ situation and has announced a compensation package on Wednesday. All birds aged above 2 months would be given Rs 200 per bird and those aged below 2 months would be given Rs 100 per bird as compensation from the State Government. The cabinet has also decided to give Rs 5 for each egg in the farm destroyed by the Rapid Response Team as a precautionary measure.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government cabinet following a meeting on Wednesday decided to provide compensation to poultry farmers who are affected by the bird flu outbreak in the state.

The culling of 50,000 birds, including ducks, hen and other pet birds have affected the poultry farmers in the state.

The Government has considered the farmers’ situation and has announced a compensation package for them on Wednesday.

All birds aged above 2 months would be given Rs 200 per bird and those aged below 2 months would be given Rs 100 per bird as compensation from the State Government. The cabinet has also decided to give Rs 5 for each egg in the farm destroyed by the Rapid Response Team as a precautionary measure.

The State Cabinet has also directed the respective departments to continue to be on high vigil. Experts are to examine the places which were the most affected. The Cabinet has also approved allotting Rs 1400 crore from Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) towards the Sabari Rail Project. The State would allocate 50 per cent of the total cost for the Sabari Rail project.
