Kerala: Elderly couple plays cricket in backyard, video goes viral!

As getting bored at home amid lockdown, an elderly couple in Kerala decided to play cricket at their backyard. The video of which went viral across all social media platforms and even the International Sports Channel ESPN shared the viral video on their Facebook handle with the caption, 'The joy of Cricket.'

Palakkad: The video of Kerala's elderly couple playing cricket in their backyard, to fight boredom during the lockdown, has made a sensation on the internet.

The video of Raman Namboothiri and his wife Bindu Ozhukil playing cricket in their backyard was recorded and posted on the social media by their son.

The video went viral across all social media platforms and even the International Sports Channel ESPN shared the viral video on their Facebook handle with the caption, 'The joy of Cricket.'

All those who viewed the video were amazed at the bowling of Bindu, a 50-year-old school teacher.

Bindu was bowling with perfect round-arm action, and her bowling was on the spot like a cricket pro.

Her husband Namboothiri was amazed at his wife’s bowling ability, and he tried to catch up by batting accurately.

Noticing their mother's 'instinctive' bowling, the couple’s children were in awe and recorded the video.

Within days after posting the video, lakhs of people shared and viewed it. Soon, the couple gained fame and started getting many phone calls.

In the video, Bindu’s children are heard saying if their mother was a cricketer in her young age.

Bindu now recollects the times when she used to play cricket with her siblings and cousins as a school child.

However, none of these memories was shared with her children or her husband in the past 27 years of marital life, she said.

Namboothiri, retired defence personnel said, "I just casually asked her to bowl as she was about to start her routine walking in the backyard. I must say that her bowling left me astonished.

It is to be noted that they were highly praised by netizens for the youthfulness in their attitude.
