Idukki: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the landslide-hit area of Pettimudi here on Thursday. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan accompanied him on his visit.
Vijayan landed in Pettimudi on a helicopter and commuted to the landslide-hit area by road.
State revenue minister, DGP and Chief Secretary also visited the site to take stock of the situation there.
The death toll from the landslide as reported on Wednesday rose to 55 with three more bodies recovered from the debris.

As per officials, 82 people were affected in the landslide on August 7. The settlements of estate workers were swept away by the landslip near Rajamala and various agencies have been engaged in the rescue operations since then.
Huge mounds of earth and slush had destroyed a row of 20 one-room 'row houses' made of tin and asbestos sheets, which was housing at least 82 workers and their families then.
