Kerala bride and groom marry on video link

A bride and her groom from Kerala stranded hundreds of miles apart in different countries, tie the knot online.

Alappuzha (Kerala): In a unique ceremony, a groom and bride, separated by thousands of kilometres, tied the knot on a video call.

The ceremony was conducted as per the religious rituals as the groom joined from Al-Khobar in Saudi Arabia, the bride from her house in Kerala and the bride's father from Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia.

As the bridegroom and his family who are in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia and the bride's father, who is in Riyadh, could not reach Kerala owing to the COVID situation, both the families decided to conduct the Nikah online.

The marriage, between Asif Nazer from Ambalappuzha and Amina from Changanassery was solemnised online under the supervision of Salim Saqafi, the religious head for the ceremony.

The bride's father joined from a hotel in Riyadh and the ceremony went on smoothly at the scheduled time without any hitches. The permission for the conduct of the online marriage was granted by the Mahal (Mosque authorities) of both the bride and the groom.

The groom's uncle Salim handed over the Mehar (a customary obligation paid by the groom at the time of an Islam wedding) to Amina, the bride.

The groom, Asif Nazer is a mechanical engineer with the Cat International group, Dammam, in Saudi Arabia. Amina is an engineering student at the Punnapra Carmel Engineering College. The bride and her family are hoping to leave for Saudi Arabia soon.
