Thiruvananthapuram: The State Cabinet has recommended Governor Arif Mohammed Khan to convene the Assembly session from January 8, 2021.

On January 15, the LDF Government would table its last State budget for the current term.

The Assembly session would last till 28 January.

The decision was made in a special cabinet meeting convened here on Friday, after which the Governor has been handed the official communication regarding the Assembly session.

The Assembly session would begin with the Governor addressing the House.

The session beginning on January 8 would be the 21st session of the 14th Legislative Assembly in Kerala.

The Assembly would also pass a four months’ vote on account.

As the state elections have been scheduled in May, Finance Minister Thomas Isaac might include people welfare schemes and programmes in the budget.

The CPM leadership meeting and the LDF meeting scheduled to be held on Friday would discuss on these schemes, it is hinted.

The budget would also include the suggestions and recommendations from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s Kerala Paryadanam (tour).

The session is most likely to witness a lot of fireworks as the opposition would bring up the controversies on gold smuggling, dollar smuggling and such issues putting the LDF on the back foot.
