New Delhi: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Mullappally Ramachandran's misogynist remarks on rape victim witnessed furore. Condemning his remarks, Senior Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat lashed at him in a video stating that it is unacceptable from a person in such a responsible position.

Karat also compared Ramachandran's slur with that of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityananth. She said that he is similar to those people who blame the victim for the atrocities against them.

She also critiqued that the Congress high command remain oblivious of such statements and asked why there is no action against those leaders who propagate misogyny. Apologising after committing a mistake is futile, she said.

"The words they speak represent the thought they have in their mind which is grossly anti-women. If he has any consideration for the dignity of women, he should either resign or be removed from the presidentship of KPCC” said Brinda Karat.

The Kerala State Women’s Commission voluntarily filed a case against him on November 2.

Ramachandran had reportedly apologised for his anti-women statement that a rape victim would kill herself if she has self-respect. While addressing a Congress protest in Thiruvananthapuram, he raked up previous cases against Congress leader and said that a rape victim would ensure that she is not violated repeatedly.

Earlier, his remarks against state Health Minister KK Shailaja had sparked a row and had invited widespread protest. He had termed Health Minister as 'COVID queen.'
