Thiruvananthapuram: The recorded voice clip that is being circulated as that of Swapna Suresh’s, one of the key accused persons in the case of gold smuggling through diplomatic baggage channel at Thiruvananthapuram, is originally hers, Swapna told the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, South Zone, on Thursday.

Swapna is currently under judicial custody and is lodged at Attakkulangara Women’s prison, in Thiruvananthapuram. The South Zone DIG had reached the jail and questioned Swapna regarding the recorded voice clip that is being circulated. In response, Swapna told the DIG that it is her statement. However, she claims that she does not remember when it was recorded.

Meanwhile, the DIG South Zone clarified that the recorded voice clip was not leaked from the Attakkulangara jail. The Prisons Department suspected that circulating the recorded voice clip of Swapna could be a planned attempt to change the course of the investigation.

Rishiraj Singh, Director General of Police (DGP), said that the help of Cyber cell police team would be sought to examine the authenticity of the recorded voice. He said there would not be any more comments regarding this matter.

A detailed examination and probe would be conducted by the South Zone DIG, the Prisons DGP added.
