Four nabbed by police for killing Kerala activist

Irshad, Muslim Youth League municipal secretary, the first accused, in the murder of Auf Abdul Rahman, a DYFI activist at Kallooravi in Kanhangad, Kasaragod District, has confessed to the crime on Friday.

Four nabbed by police for killing Kerala activist

Kasaragod (Kerala): The prime accused of DYFI activist Auf Abdul Rahman murder has been arrested by Kerala police from Kasaragod area on Friday. Meanwhile, police have arrested four persons and taken them into custody.

The accused have been identified as MSF Kanhangad municipal president Hassan, Muslim Youth League activist Ashir and Muslim Youth League activists Issahak and Irshad.

While police arrested Issahak and Irshad on Thursday, they confessed to the crime on Friday and also stated that Hassan and Ashir had taken part in the murder.

According to police sources, Auf Abdul Rahman was attacked during a clash between two groups near Bava Nagar Road at Mundathodu around 10 pm on Wednesday.

The clash turned into a violent war and Rahman was stabbed to death by Irshad and other Muslim Youth League activists.

District Police Chief D Shilpa, after visiting the crime scene, confirmed to the media that clashes have happened between the two groups here.

It is suspected that the murder was caused by the friction that developed after the Muslim League candidate lost the LSG polls.

On being informed about the incident, the dog squad had reached carried out an examination at the scene of the crime. The dogs reached near a mosque close by, after sniffing the iron rod used to attack Auf Abdul Rahman, the spectacles picked from the crime scene, and the spot where there was a pool of blood. After recovering body, police sent it to a nearby hospital for postmortem and launched a manhunt to nab the accused persons.

Upon investigating the case, police arrested four accused persons in connection to this murder case. After the accused confessed to committing the crime, the police took them into custody and further investigation is underway.
