Malappuram: Six persons have been arrested by forest officials in Kerala's Malappuram on Friday after they killed a pregnant gaur.
Abu alias Nanippa (47), Muhammed Busthan (30), Muhammed Ansif (23), Ashiq (27) and Suhail (28), all natives of Puncha in Malappuram District were arrested on Tuesday.
Nilambur Forest Range Officer said, "about 25 kilograms of meat has been seized from the possession of one of the accused."
Abu had shot the pregnant gaur, which was pregnant with a fully grown foetus. The gaur’s remains were examined by veterinarian Dr K N Noushadali.
The tools used for hunting the animal were also found.
During the investigation, the hunters also led the forest officials to skeletal and other remains of the animal which they had left behind in the forest.
