Thiruvananthapuram: A fire broke out at the famous Colachel Mandakkadu Bhagavathy Amman temple destroying its roof, but there are no casualties, reports said.
The temple in Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu was empty at the time of the incident due to the Covid lockdown.

The idol in the temple was intact and safe, reports said.

First reports said the fire may have been caused by an open flame on a lamp. Firefighters from Thuckalai and Colachel were sent to douse the blaze.
