Thiruvananthapuram: Facebook has blocked the account of renowned poet Satchidanandan for having posted a video on the failure of the BJP in Kerala. Besides a 24 hour ban on posting anything, including video content on his page, Satchidanandan cannot use his Facebook account for a ‘FB live’ for a month.

Satchidanandan alleged that the FB ban is for posting about Narendra Modi and Amit Shah in the background of Kerala Assembly election results.

The poet had posted a video on the BJP’s failure in recent Kerala Assembly polls, a day ago.

Meanwhile, many from the social, literary and cultural arena in Kerala have come up declaring solidarity for the poet.

Malayalam writer Benyamin said Satchidanandan’s poetry and his stands are like thunderbolts for cowards. It is a shame that a government fears even a 75-year old poet, he added.

Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor said Satchidanandan’s Facebook account suspension in the name of posting a video on BJP’s failure in Kerala polls is ‘deplorable’.

On his Twitter handle, Tharoor said, “Deplorable that Facebook has suspended the account of one of Kerala's greatest living poets, @Satchida (K. Satchidanandan, former Secy of the Sahitya Akademi), for posting a video about BJP's defeat in the Kerala Assembly elections. We must not allow censorship into our politics!”
