Union cabinet secretary applauds Pathanamthitta for its containment measures put in place to reduce the number of COVID-19 infections in the district.

Pathanamthitta: The Central Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba applauded Kerala's Pathanamthitta district for the substantial efforts taken by the district administration in COVID-19 treatment and prevention activities.

According to reports, the Cabinet Secretary praised the district administration and the health department during a video conference, held to evaluate the prevention measures put in place.

The meeting was attended by the District Collectors and State Chief Secretaries of the affected regions including Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

"The precautionary measures taken by Pathanamthitta district Administration and the State’s health department in containing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, are examples to the nation," Guha said after reviewing the presentation by the collector.

"The district’s works towards this cause are laudable and can be replicated by other states in the country," the cabinet secretary said.

District Collector P B Nooh presented all related measures carried out in the district so far. Only four districts in India, namely Bilava in Rajasthan, Agra and Mumbai, besides Pathanamthitta, were given such an opportunity to present their strategies.

Thirteen more people, including three who had returned after attending the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in New Delhi, have tested positive for coronavirus in Kerala on Monday, taking the total number of active cases to 266, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Kasaragod, the worst affected district in the state, accounted for nine cases, while two cases were reported from Malappuram and one each from Kollam and Pathanamthitta, he told reporters after taking stock of the COVID-19 situation at a review meeting here.
