Thiruvananthapuram: Ahead of the Assembly elections in Kerala, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday lashed out at the BJP and the Left Democratic Front (LDF), and urged people not to vote for the two parties.
During a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, Kharge said voting for the LDF was equivalent to voting for the CPM as the Left party had no power to oppose the BJP at the national level.
"Modi's strategy is to subjugate the poor financially and everyone knows the central government and the Government of Kerala are harassing the fishermen. Voting for the LDF is equal to voting for the BJP because the CPM has no power to oppose the BJP at the national level. In India, only the Congress can oppose the ideology of the RSS and the BJP," he said.
"The BJP is using its power to intimidate its opponents in the Assembly elections, candidates and political leaders," Kharge said.
Hitting out at the prime minister and the home minister, Kharge said, "Modi and Shah are subverting the election process and the finding of EVMs in the car of a BJP candidate in Assam is a testimony to this."
Earlier, Kharge had said the ideology of the RSS and the BJP was poisonous and people should not allow the saffron party to foray into Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The election for 140-member Kerala Assembly will be conducted on April 6. The counting of votes will be held on May 2.
